Oh man..where do I even begin. I went to a Blink 182 concert on Wednesday and it was absolutely in-cre-di-ble. I don't think I can fully express how amazing it really was but I will try. So this was my second Blink show and although the first show was with No Doubt, which is another one of my favorite bands, this was so fucking awesome. They opened with 'Feeling This' which was absolutely incredible. I even told my sister as we were raving about and discussing our dream setlist that if they opened with "Feeling This' it would be a calling from God himself, and sure enough they did!! I was so fucking stoked. Throughout the rest of the concert, whenever a song would start I would look over at Shawna and say "OMG I LOVE THIS SONG!"without even thinking about the fact that I said that about every single song...I was getting my fan girl on real hard. There was a big group of like 6 really tall guys right behind us. I am pretty sure they thought we were complete freaks because of the way we would dance and just go crazy during every song. We didn't care, obviously. I loved the fact that they played "Fuck a Dog", "Happy Holidays You Bastard", and closed the entire concert with "Family Reunion". Considering the fact that they said they didnt feel comfortable playing those songs anymore, I feel incredibly lucky to have heard those live!! Of course they waited until the encore to play 'Carousel' and my personal favorite 'Dammit'. I almost died when Tom said ''take your pants off' right before playing 'Dammit' because that's what he says in the live album. I am sorry if that is super nerdy and weird, Its little things like that that really make me the happiest.
At the end of the concert Ashley said "Blink 182 is my religion" and that has really stuck with me because I feel like Blink 182 has played such a big part in my growing up that it pretty much is my religion. Not to mention that their shows are pretty much a religious experience. It really is. I have loved Blink 182 from the moment I heard the first song off of 'Enema of the State' when I was about 8 years old. My older would lay on the floor in our bedrooms with our heads right next to one of the speakers on our boom-box and listen to that album on repeat, all day. We had every single song memorized and I dont really remember ever feeling ashamed to blast that shit in front of my parents. We did that for 'The Mark, Tom and Travis Show' and 'Take off your pants and Jacket'. I am pretty sure we would recite all of 'Mark, Tom and Travis' show to each other all throughout middle school. To this day I don't think I have ever gone through a day without listening to at least one Blink song. I listen to them on the bus ride to work because I think its lucky and makes me have really good days. Its safe to say they were one the bands that changed my life. Everything about their music is amazing. They will definitely be a band I will absolutely LOVE even when I am 60 years old.
As for the new album. Everyone kept telling me it was awful and lame so it made me hesitant to even listen to it because I didnt want to be disappointed. Of course I had to support them anyway so I bought the album and since I liked the singles they had released, I starting listening to it. I fucking love it. It is different than their older stuff, but lets be honest, they are not going to write about sex, dating, humping grandpas and boners anymore. They are a lot older and they all are grown ass man with kids. I considering the direction their last album went towards, this new album makes perfect sense. It is still very much Blink 182, just in a different way. It has an element of every single on the them. It is stadium rock and AVA-esque like Tom, Its punk and very much Mark, and its hip hop and retro just like Travis. I also think the lyrics are a lot darker because they all went through some pretty dark shit, so its natural that they would talk about more serious things. I like every single song. Seriously, go check it out!
Sorry for the rant. I take the word "obsession" to a whole new level.
